Turn to Imperial Custom Woodworking Inc for how to clean cabinets in your kitchen, bathroom, dining area or any other area of your home efficiently, promptly and safely. Read below to learn about proper cabinet care, and call us with any questions.
- Do not use a dish cloth to wipe your cabinet exterior, since it may contain remnants of grease or detergents.
- To polish your cabinets and woodwork, use only polish designed for solid wood cabinetry. Clean cabinets with a warm damp cloth only or an emulsion non-solvent cleaner. Emulsion cleaners are formulated without wax, petroleum solvents or silicones.
- The extended use of wax polishes can result in a wax film buildup. Silicone polishes can harm the cabinet's finish. Dry immediately with a lint-free cloth.
- Self-cleaning appliances generate intense heat during a cleaning cycle. We recommend the removal of doors and/or drawers from cabinets adjacent to or directly above an appliance during a cleaning cycle. This will help prevent possible damage to the finish or surface of these cabinets. You may also choose to purchase a heat shield that can be installed on the side panels of an oven cabinet to help deflect excessive heat from adjacent cabinets.
- It is important to wipe up spills and water marks as they occur. For kitchen cabinets, pay special attention to areas around the sink and dishwasher. Avoid draping damp or wet dish towels over the door of the sink base cabinet. Over time, this moisture can cause permanent water damage to the door.
- When you have a finished surface, avoid setting very hot coffee mugs, bowls, pots and pans. Steer clear of setting scented oil or liquid potpourri from a warmer directly on your woodwork.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or powdered cleansers. These may scratch and penetrate the surface, allowing food or moisture to enter and deteriorate the finish. Do not allow oven cleaners to touch any part of the cabinet.
